James Melvin McCall was the owner of McCall Electrical Contractors, an Army veteran, a member of the Hejaz Shrine Temple and a member of Clearview Baptist Church. He lost his battle to a Glioblastoma Multiforme IV at the age of 58 and sought treatment at The Brain Tumor Center at Duke.
A huge NASCAR fan, an avid golfer and devoted family man-Melvin lived his life to the fullest. He believed that if his life could contribute to saving five others, it was worth the price.
This tournament was begun by his sons-Shawn and Lee McCall in honor of his life and to support the research for the cure of brain tumors by raising awareness and funds. |

Pebble Creek Golf Club is the home of the Melvin McCall "Strokes for Progress" golf Tournament. The tournament has grown from its beginning in 1999 with 26 teams to now an average of 51 teams. Over 9 states are represented by those that play in the tournament-many players fly in or drive to participate and support the mission of the tournament.
The tournament has raised thousands of dollars thanks to the support of local friends and families that share the enthusiasm for golf and NASCAR. Many NASCAR celebrities have committed their time to supporting this effort year after year and it wouldn't be successful without this kind of dedication. The tournament hosts the largest NASCAR memorabilia silent auction each year at the end of the tournament. |
